چکیده

We define Wannier functions for interacting systems, and show that the results on the localization of the Wannier functions for non-interacting systems carry over to the Wannier functions for interacting systems. In addition we demonstrate that the characterization of metals and insulators by the decay properties of their respective density matrices does not only apply to non-interacting, but also to interacting systems. As a prototypical example of a correlated system we investigate the onedimensional Hubbard model. We propose an expression for the density matrix of that model, and derive a relation between the decay constant of the density matrix and the gap.

wannier90: A tool for obtaining maximally-localised Wannier functions

We present wannier90, a program for calculating maximally-localised Wannier functions (MLWF) from a set of Bloch energy bands that may or may not be attached to or mixed with other bands. The formalism works by minimising the total spread of the MLWF in real space. This is done in the space of unitary matrices that describe rotations of the Bloch bands at each k-point. As a result, wannier90 is...

Electronic transport in Si and Au monoatomic chains considering strongly correlation effect, a first principle study

We have investigated structure and electronic properties of Au and Si liner chains using the firstprinciplesplane wave pseudopotential method. The transport properties and conductance of these twoliner chains are studied using Landauer approaches based on density functional theory (DFT). Weobtain density of states and band gap using Kohn-Sham and Wannier functions as well as quantumconductivity...

Wannier states in order-N electronic-structure method

The ‘order-N’ or ‘linear-systemsize-scaling’ methods 1) are electronic-structure calculations in which the computational cost is ‘O(N)’, or linearly proportional to the system-size N . In conventional schemes, the computational cost should be O(N), because of the matrix-diagonalization procedures or the orthogonalization constraints of the wavefunctions. The aim of order-N methods is to calcula...

Wannier representation of Z2 topological insulators

We consider the problem of constructing Wannier functions for Z2 topological insulators in two dimensions. It is well known that there is a topological obstruction to the construction of Wannier functions for Chern insulators, but it has been unclear whether this is also true for the Z2case. We consider the Kane-Mele tight-binding model, which exhibits both normal (Z2-even) and topological (Z2-...
